Our commitment to this responsibility is realized through our contribution
to the preservation of trees. Instead of thoughtlessly plundering
trees for pencil manufacture, we strive to protect our bio-diversity
and to maintain ecological balance.
Rather than relying on forest grown timber, we encourage renewable
sources of timber by procuring our requirement from those who either
grow trees on their farms, land or in the court yard of their residential
premises.
Our Plantations:
As a part of our commitment to India's national policy of increasing
the forest cover from 19.3% at present to 33% in years to come,
we have ventured into developing our own timberland. These timberlands
are short rotation plantations that are developed by converting
untapped, fallow land resources to superior quality tree plantations.
Drawing on climatic and ground water resources and by adopting scientific
practices of cultivating tree crops, suitable tree species are selected
which can grow within a cycle of 7 to 10 years. We lay emphasis
on planting superior, disease resistant and fast growing clones
which will improve land productivity, timber quality, yields and
maintain ecological balance on a sustainable basis.
